Why salt water fish thrown in pure water will burst and get
killed?
When the fish live in salt water , the cells of the fish accustomed
to maintain high concentration. But when the fish is thrown in fresh water, hypotonic
condition exists outside the fish. Due
to this difference in concentration, through endosmosis water from outside
enters into the cells of the fish. As the cells of fish absorb more and water
through endosmosis, the cells become very much swollen and burst. Thus the fish
will be killed.
